This week Jeans and Tee's and Travel and Cakes is showcasing, Bowerman and the Men of Oregon, written by Kenny Moore as our book of the week. Bowerman and the Men of Oregon is about Bill Bowerman, the legendary University of Oregon track coach and founder of Nike.
This is one of the best biographies I've ever read, this man's life is downright amazing. You don't have to be a lover of running or Nike to enjoy this story.
Bill coached at the University of Oregon from 1949 through 1972, where he won four national titles and trained some of the best runners during the running boom in the 1960's-70's such as running prodigy Steve Prefontaine. His athletes set thirteen world and twenty-two American records. And it is said that he single handily turned the small college town of Eugene, Oregon into the running capital of the world.
He is also the co-founder of Nike, along with Phil Knight. This book takes you on a great journey from the start of Nike, to the mega brand it has become today. His story is intriguing and he's helped so many people on his journey to not just to become better athletes but better people in general.
Check out Bowerman and the Men of Oregon, you will definitely enjoy. I must say, it's a very big book but it will look great on your coffee table afterwards and a conversation starter for sure.
Enjoy!
"The real purpose of running isn't to win a race, it's to test the limits of the human heart." - Bill Bowerman
