Quote of the day.

Wow, I can't believe this is the last day of 2010. It has been a great year, filled with so many great things.
I hope everyone has a happy, healthy and safe New Year, try not to party too hard or you'll forget some great memories.

Today's quote is from Hal Borland, who was an American author and journalist. It's a quote about the end of the year and the start of a new.  I also included my favorite version of a classic New Year's song, Auld Lang Syne, it is from Sex and the City the movie and it always gives me chills. No one should ever be alone on New Year's, that should be a rule.

Enjoy.

Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us.

Traveling.

I love to travel, but sometimes it can really take a lot out of you. I guess the worst time to travel is around the holidays since there are so many people traveling and on top of that you have to worry about the weather.

The manfriend and I were supposed to head back to Athens on Monday but because of the blizzard that attacked New York City, our flight was cancelled. We both spent most of Monday morning on the phone with British Airways, at first they booked us on two separate flights but I was having none of that. The reason I was heading back to Greece this soon was so I didn't have to travel alone. My guy worked his magic and instead of being on two separate flights out of Newark, now we were on the same flight Tuesday night out of JFK. It was great to get another day with our families, but the snow did limit us to doing a lot of things.

Tuesday morning, we checked both of our flights and they were on time, while my brother and his wife's flight was delayed, so they rescheduled and we said our goodbyes and headed to JFK. Once we entered the airport, it was quite a scene, there were people everywhere and everyone was delayed. Our flight at that point was still on time, checking in and security went very smooth, so we went to the bar and had a drink before boarding because we had some time. Well, I wish I could say the rest of the night went smoothly, our flight ended up delayed and once we boarded, we were stuck on the tarmac for three hours, because the baggage machine was frozen and they couldn't get our luggage on the plane. When we finally took off, I was looking forward to falling asleep but we hit turbulence through the whole flight which scared me to death.

Our first flight to London which was supposed to land at 6:30 am London time, landed at 10:30 instead, we were happy to see that when we stepped off the plane a British airways ticket agent was there to meet us with our new boarding pass for our 12:25 flight. With some time to kill, we stopped for some breakfast. We had a traditional British breakfast and it was rather yummy. Heathrow Airport is beautiful and very upscale, they have a Harrods in there which made me want to shop instead of getting on another flight.

The second flight actually went off on schedule and it was a short four hour trip to Athens, which I slept through most of, surprisingly. I couldn't believe how excited I was to land and get back to the apartment. Everything went smoothly in the airport, we got our bags, went through customs and we were on our way. Being back at our apartment was amazing, I couldn't wait to sit and unwind with the manfriend.

I guess when traveling, you should be prepared for anything. I was so happy I didn't have to travel alone and we had plenty of reading material, our ipad and macbook to keep us busy and it also helps that most airlines give you unlimited amount of wine or beer.

Now time to enjoy some jet lag!

Quote of the day.

I know it's been awhile since my last post, the last couple of days have been very crazy. The manfriend and I are finally back in Athens after a very long day of travel, I never thought I'd be so happy to be back at our apartment.

Today's quote is from the movie, It's a Wonderful Life. I know Christmas is over but I love this quote, it reminds me of my great family and I am so happy I got to spend time with everyone while I was home. Family is the most precious thing out there and I am truly blessed to have one of the greatest.

Enjoy.

No man is a failure who has friends.

Quote of the day.

Hello there, hope everyone had a great Holiday. I am currently snowed in, in New York City. I was supposed to return to Greece tonight but my flight has been cancelled and rescheduled for tomorrow night. With that said, I am really enjoying this snow day, getting a chance to relax inside and catch up with my readers and other bloggers.

I really love today's quote from Groucho Marx, it's about living in the moment and not getting to caught up in the past or getting worried about the future. You can't worry about things you can not control, I am learning this every day.

Enjoy.

Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.
-Groucho Marx

Quote of the day.

Happy Wednesday loves, hope all is well on your side of the computer. I really love today's quote, it is from the television show, One Tree Hill. This quote is about making choices, following our dreams and being tested. When it comes down to it, that's what life is made up of; dreams, choices and tests. We just have to learn to roll with it and push right on through.

Enjoy.

There are moments in our lives where we find ourselves at a crossroads. Afraid, confused, without a road map. The choices we make in those moments can define the rest of our days. Of course, when faced with the unknown, most of us choose to turn around and go back. But once in a while, people push on to something better, something found just beyond the pain of going it alone, and just beyond the bravery and courage it takes to let someone in, or give someone a second chance, something beyond the quiet persistence of a dream. because it's only when you're tested, that you discover who you are, that you discover who you can be. The person you can be does exist, beyond the hard work, faith, belief, and beyond the heartache, and fear of what lies ahead.

Quote of the day.

Today's quote is from a cute romantic comedy called, Little Black Book. I'm a sucker for quotes like these and romantic comedies.

Enjoy and happy Tuesday!

I believe we write our own stories and each time we think we know the end, we don't. Perhaps luck exists somewhere between the world of planning, of chance and in the peace that comes from knowing that you just can't know it all. Life's funny that way... once you let go of the wheel, you might end up right where you belong.

Quote of the day.

Happy Monday, can't believe we are five days away from Christmas. Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Today's quote is by an unknown author and the message is great. Sometimes we get so caught up in things and so stressed out with life, we don't enjoy the moment. So relax a little more, enjoy the simple things, and don't take anything for granted.

Enjoy.

Breathe. Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure.

Moon River.

This song is from my favorite movie, Breakfast at Tiffany's. I love this song and I've been listening to it a lot lately.

Enjoy.

I love Audrey.

Quote of the day.

Happy Saturday, it is yet another cold day in New York City, which really puts me in the Christmas Spirit. I still have some last minute shopping to do, hopefully I will get that all done today.

Today's quote is from Hallmark, I have a slight obsession with cards, I can spend hours in a Hallmark store reading card after card, my man friend is usually the lucky recipient of all the cards as I have a stockpile of cards for any possible moment or lifetime achievement. I love words and there power to let someone know how you feel. I really dig this quote and I hope you like it too.

Enjoy

If you ever doubt the power of language, listen more closely. Witness the magic the first time someone whispers "i love you." Watch a woman put on head phones, close her eyes, and have her life changed by a lyric. See a bad moment flipped upside down by a well timed joke. Words propel us, empower us, make us human and more than human. We constantly struggle to say what we mean and mean what we say. To "wrestle with words and meanings." that's what T.S. Elliot calls it. But as we whisper and shout, stutter and spin, we create order out of the chaos around us. We are built of words, and we live by them, too.

Congrats P.S. 22 Chorus Staten Island

P.S. 22 Chorus of Staten Island, got quite the surprise yesterday. Anne Hathaway showed up to their annual Winter Concert and announced that they are invited to sing with her on stage at the Oscars this February in Los Angeles.

I am so proud of these little kids representing Staten Island positively and singing with such passion.
Check them out on YouTube, they have so many songs on there and you will be blown away.

Way to go P.S. 22 Chorus!

Here is the clip of Anne Hathaway telling the kids that they are going to the Academy Awards.

And here is one of my favorite clips of them. This little girl is a beast of a singer.

Quote of the day.

Happy Friday Loves, hope everyone is excited for the weekend.
Today's quote is from Amelia Earhart, her story is one of the most intriguing out there. I've read her biography and I recently watched the film Amelia, staring Hilary Swank who does an amazing job portraying Earhart.
Amelia Earhart was a woman who defied many odds in her day and she is a true role model to women. Her story is tragic and leaves everyone wondering what really happened to her. Her quote which I used today is a very simple message and one to live by.

Enjoy
The most effective way to do it, is to do it.

Quote of the day.

Happy Thursday to all my beautiful readers. This week is flying by which I am excited about because I get to pick my brother and sister in-law up from the airport tomorrow, they are spending the Holiday with us in New York. I am also super excited because my manfriend will be landing in New York Monday night, coming home from Greece, wahoo!

Today's quote is a cute statement, I found on Hollies Quotes, such a wonderful website. The quote is by an unknown author, and the message is great, it's about being happy, and who doesn't want to be happy.

Enjoy.

Being happy doesn’t mean things are perfect, it just means you’ve decided to look past the imperfections.

What a Cake!

This past weekend  my family and I celebrated my twenty fifth birthday. A few weeks back I sent my amazing baker of a sister some ideas for my cake, she told me she would come up with her own creation from my suggestions and surprise me the day of the party. Here is the post of the cake suggestions I sent her a few weeks back, Love Me Some Cake.

When she unveiled my cake I almost fell over, I couldn't believe what I was looking at. This lady is amazing with her ability to bake and create. Along with my cake she also made a bunch of cupcakes with vanilla bean frosting and champagne cake. The details on this cake were awesome, as you will see below. I love you sister, you are so talented and I am so proud of you and where your baking is taking you.

Enjoy the awesome pictures below!

Here is the link to my sister's blog post on the cake and cupcakes, which also includes the recipes.

Quote of the day.

I really love today's quote, it's from the famous Marilyn Monroe. I dig her message and I find it very true.

Quote of the day.

Yikes, it is rather cold today in New York City,I woke up to a dusting of snow on my car, yuck. Today's quote I found on Holliesquotes.com, which is my go to place to find fantastic quotes. This quote about having confidence and the author is unknown.

I am a huge believer in quiet confidence, knowing that you can do something but not letting everyone know that you can do it, just going out there and getting it done. Nothing is more unattractive than an overly confident cocky person. So be confident but in a positive and respectable way.

Enjoy.

Confidence is the inner voice that says you are becoming what you are capable of being.

Quote of the day.

Happy Monday, it is freezing here in New York, I am missing that warm Athens weather. I hope everyone had a great weekend. Today's quote is a little nostalgic for me, my mom gave this quote to my boyfriend  his senior year at Notre Dame, he kept it framed in his apartment. I love this quote and it's message, and it brings back fond memories of our beginning.

My mom has always had a way of motivating with cards and quotes. I have truly become my mother's daughter because I could send someone a card or quote for just about anything, so thanks Mom, I feel it's one of my best qualities and I learned it from you.

Enjoy.

Watch your thoughts; They become your words.
Watch your words; They become your actions.
Watch your actions; They become your habits.
Watch your habits; They become your character.
Watch your character; It becomes your destiny.

Quote of the day.

Today's quote comes from a cute little flick, Life or Something Like It. Check it out if you get the chance. It's a very simple quote but it has one of the greater messages. Be happy you are living, sometimes life can be shit, other times marvelous, at least you are here to go through it all.
Enjoy, and happy Sunday.
(My favorite day of the week.)

Be happy for this moment, for this moment is your life.

A Christmas Song.

I love Christmas music, I could listen to it all year round but to keep everyone around me sane, I usually start right after Halloween. I have a few favorites as I am sure everyone does, these songs help my Christmas season a better one.

Enjoy some tunes and happy Sunday.

Judy Garland's Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.
I love this song, and her voice is so classic.

The Waitresses, Christmas Wrapping.
There is something about this Christmas tune, I just love.

Harry Connick Jr., (It Must've Been 'Ol) Santa Claus
This song reminds me of my youth, absolutely love it!

Quote of the day.

Hey there all you beautiful babies, I hope everyone is having a great Saturday. It's such a beautiful day here in New York, I'm excited to enjoy it.

Today's quote is by Mark Twain, and it has a very great message. Sometimes in life you will run into people that talk negatively about your ambitions and even hope you might fail, ignore them. Because there will be plenty of people that are waiting for you to succeed and will be by your side no matter what, surround yourself with those people.

Enjoy.

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.

Quote of the day.

Happy Friday Loves, I am so looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend with my family in New York. Today's quote comes from Holliesquotes.com, I am on that website all the time reading quote after quote, there are so many amazing ones.

This quote caught my eye, it's about not being afraid to fail or to try something new. Sometimes I get scared of change or failing but I think I am even more scared of regret. So don't be afraid to do something because even if don't succeed at least you can say you tried.

Enjoy.
Don't fear failure so much you refuse to try new things, the saddest summary of life contains three descriptions, could have, might have, and should have.

Quote of the day.

I was thinking this morning, how fast time goes by, I remember like it was yesterday that it was my last day at work and I was leaving for Greece and this morning I am on the Staten Island Ferry going back to work. Time moves super fast which is a blessing and a curse in so many ways.

Today's quote comes from a Joni Mitchell song I love very much called, The Circle Game. It's a beautiful song about life and how quickly it passes.

Enjoy.

And the seasons they go 'round and 'round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game

Quote of the day.

Today my family and I remember someone we love very much and lost two years ago. He was an amazing man, that could light up a room and talk to you about how beautiful life is for hours and hours on end. I am proud to call him my uncle and I miss him all the time, but I know he is watching down on all of us.

Today's quote was one of my uncle's sayings and I just love it so much. He loved family and watching his kids, nieces and nephews grow  up before his eyes, at almost every family party he would say his famous saying and we all knew he was right.

Love and miss you Uncle Tommy, this quote is for you.

Enjoy.

Quote of the day.

Sorry for no quote yesterday,I spent my day on a airplane, with that said I am back in New York and very happy to be, but I do wish my manfriend was back with me.

While on the flight I got to watch some good movies,Going the Distance, Salt and Invictus. I do have one complaint to Delta and that is, it isn't good to play a movie on a plane about a long distance relationship, especially since some of the passengers on board just left a loved one, I looked like a nut crying at every airport scene watching Going the Distance.

Today's quote comes from the movie Invictus, if you haven't seen it you definitely should check it out. It's a great film and a true story which makes the movie even more amazing. This quote comes from the actual poem Invictus by William Ernest Henry, which they used in the movie.

Enjoy.

I am the master of my fate - I am the captain of my soul.

Here's to Another 25.

I can't believe I turned twenty five today, I'm not gonna lie there is something about this age that freaks me out. I know by no means is twenty five old, but this feeling of being established and on the right track moving upward has been on my mind.

I know I'm not a slacker and that I've accomplished a lot of things I set out to accomplish in my twenty five years here on earth. I suffer from a little problem and that is that I always feel like I'm not doing enough. The people closest to me would argue with me that I am crazy and that I do plenty, but I figure since we only get one go at this amazing thing called life, that I should get all that I can out of it.

So I have made a list of some new goals I'd like to achieve in my next quarter life, because what is life without dreams and ambitions. So here is to the next twenty five, let them be happy and healthy and full of good things as the past twenty five have been.

I leave you with an Irish saying.

Here's to a long life and a merry one,
a quick death and an easy-one,
a handsome boy and an honest one,
a cold beer and another one.

Four year old me celebrating my birthday in California.

Quote of the day.

Today's quote is from a Natalie Merchant song called Wonder. I love this song, it's on my running playlist and I just absolutely love the lyrics. You must know that every individual is a wonder, a unique gift, so you must treasure yourself and all those you love.

Enjoy.

Oh, I believe
Fate, smiles and destiny
Laughed as she came to my cradle
Know this child will be able
Laughed as my body she lifted
Know this child will be gifted
With love, with patience and with faith
She'll make her way

People see me
I'm a challenge to your balance
I'm over your heads
How I confound you and astound you
To know I must be one of the wonders
Of god's own creation
And as far as you can see you can offer me
No Explanation

The Dog Days are Over.

I love the words to this song and turning since I'm turning
twenty five tomorrow, are my dog days over?

Quote of the day.

Today's quote is in honor of Jimmy V. week. Jim Valvano was a national championship college basketball coach who is most famous for his speech he gave at the Espy awards just eight weeks before he died of cancer. This man was a beast, his words could move anyone, his main message he delivered was to never give up, live life to the fullest, smile, hug someone, be a dreamer. He said this all while knowing that death was at his door. He is someone I truly admire and his words have inspired me to dream more and worry less.

Like I said earlier, this week is Jimmy V for Cancer Research Week, if you are interested in donating to this great foundation here is the link, www.jimmyv.org, know that 100% of all direct donations and net event proceeds fund cancer research, more than $100 million have been raised for cancer research and the Jimmy V foundation funds research for all cancer types.

Enjoy.

To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.
-Jimmy V.

Quote of the day.

Happy December 2nd, I've been in such a Holiday mood the last few days and downloaded Love Actually to watch on iTunes tonight. I love this movie and it puts me in a Christmasy mood. There is one quote in this movie that always makes me tear up, and it is today's quote. The quote is about love and who doesn't love love?

Enjoy.

It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around.

Happy 1st of December.

I love this time of year, even in Greece where the temperature is still rather warm, you can feel that Christmas is right around the corner. I've been playing Christmas music non stop in the apartment and dreaming of New York City during the Holidays, I can't wait to be home.

I was browsing my usual websites and came across Tiffany's Holiday ads, it was love at first sight for me. No, not because it's Tiffany's, even though I love anything in a "Little Blue Box, I fell in love with the way they captured classic New York. I posted the pictures below along with one of my favorite Christmas songs by The Pogues, Fairytale of New York.

Enjoy.

The Pogues, Fairytale of New York

Happy Tis the Seasoning!

Who doesn't want wings?

I woke up this morning to quite the array of Facebook and Twitter updates about last night's Victoria Secret Fashion Show.  The updates were either ladies wishing they looked like the gorgeous supermodels, men wishing they dated the gorgeous supermodels, or the people hating on the gorgeous supermodels, as my boyfriend read me one  of the many updates which said, "looks like the Victoria's Secret models didn't eat any Thanksgiving dinner this year."

Thank God I had my manfriend DVR it for me on Slingbox, this is something I look forward to every year, call me weird or crazy but I love this fashion show. I know I will never grace the catwalk for Victoria's Secret, but there is something so sexy about those women. Let's face it every girl wishes they could look like those ladies and wear a pair of wings, so we either a.) applaud their freakish genetics or b.) hate them for their freakish genetics. I choose the first option, I can appreciate a beautiful looking woman when I see one. Don't spend your time hating on these ladies, they were born that way, they can't help it. Also don't be jealous if your significant other drools at the TV, he is dating/married to you, you are his own personal Victoria's Secret Angel and he knows it.

If you want to live out the dream of being a Victoria Secret Angel, there is an easy way to make your dream a reality, just go to Face in Hole.com where you can put your face on a Victoria's Secret models body. Just be careful, I did this and was totally embarrassed when a guy I worked with was dating one of these models and my head happened to be on her body, true story. I told him that I admired her abs and rack, he enjoyed the compliment while I was mortified.

So even though most of us will never be an Angel on television or in magazines, one must think of themselves as a sexy little bombshell because to someone we are.

Hey, a girl can dream. (My Face in Hole creation)

Here's a clip of last night's show. Enjoy!

Now I get to look forward to March when the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue comes out. You can also put your face on the Cover of that as well.

Quote of the day.

I found today's quote on Holliesquotes.com, it's by Buddha and I absolutely love the message. I think in order to live a happy life and enjoy other people and things, one must truly be happy and love themselves. If you love and respect yourself, people will love and respect you more.

So go ahead and LOVE.

Enjoy.

You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.

Quote of the day.

I am sitting here in Athens watching Eat, Pray, Love and thinking about how I am turning twenty five this weekend. So many thoughts about this birthday, I guess it is a milestone and it's a point in your life where you evaluate where you've been and where you're going.

My main focus in life, is to be a good person, give more, judge less, win respect of others by being a good person. This is something I am constantly working on and I hope one day to perfect it. I found today's quote within the movie Eat, Pray, Love and no it isn't a quote from my favorite Elizabeth Gilbert, it's from a song they use in the movie, Neil Young's Heart of Gold. I love the words to this song, you can interpret it in many ways, for me this song is about becoming a better you.

Enjoy.

I've been to Hollywood
I've been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean
for a heart of gold
I've been in my mind,
it's such a fine line
That keeps me searching
for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old.
Keeps me searching
for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old.
-Neil Young, Heart of Gold
