Welcome to the World William Beckett

To William Beckett,

Yesterday, I received the best news I could hear, you were born. William Beckett, little boy to my brother and sister-in-law. You were  born at 8:57am on July 4th, 2011 weighing in at 7 pounds, 12 ounces and 20-1/2 inches long. I literally jumped up from my desk at work and started cheering, when I heard the news you were here, I'm pretty sure I scared a couple of new hires but I couldn't help it, I was ecstatic.

I was supposed to work until five but my awesome bosses let me leave early so I could go see you, with the rest of the family. I work in Midtown Manhattan and you were born in Staten Island, by the way it was also Fourth of July, so trains, buses and ferries were on a holiday schedule, I knew this would be challenging. Well let me tell you, it looked like a scene from a movie, I ran out of work, stepped to the curb and waved down a cab, hopped in and said, "Step on it, I have a baby to meet." The cabbie got me down to the Staten Island Ferry in record time, I was so grateful and made the next departing ferry with time to spare.

The manfriend,Kyle (who looked after your dog while you were born), picked me up at the ferry terminal and we were off to the hospital, where your parents and you were hanging out. I can't tell you the emotions that were running through me the moments leading up to meeting you, I felt like I was going to burst into tears, I was so happy. Well, burst I did the minute I saw you, tears began falling from my eyes. You were by far one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen, and yes I may be bias saying this because you are my nephew, but please, let me enjoy this time to gloat.

You were so perfect, I was in utter awe of you. I was in even more awe of how amazingly calm your mommy and daddy were. I am so freaking proud of them and I know that they are going to be awesome parents. You are so lucky to be brought into a home like their's and have a huge family that is going to love you more then words can describe.

The beauty of being an aunt, which I am getting better and better at as the days go by (Thank you Jack and Benjamin!), is that you get to watch this tiny little being, turn into a tiny little person, with their own personality, their own loves, passions and interests. You watch in amazement as they grow before your eyes and all you can do is smile and love them because they are the most beautiful things you've ever seen. And it is an honor that you can be a part of their life.

William Beckett, you came into this world on the Forth of July, you are our little firecracker and I can't wait to watch you grow and become the William, you've always dreamed of being. You have amazing parents that are going to help you achieve anything you want to in this world. I am proud to know you, even though you are only a day old, I know there are big things in store for you Will, because you're you.

Shoot for the moon William, because even if you miss you'll land amongst the stars.

I love you,
Aunt Meggie
